Ginger root, Zingiber officinale, is a member of the same family as galangal and turmeric. It's a native of Southeast Asia. This plant is what's called a "cultigen," meaning it doesn't have a known wild ancestor, and we've been cultivating this one for so long we can't yet trace it to its precise origins.

Magical applications: In folk magic applications, its energy can be an amusingly effective spell accelerant.
