Jailbreaking Patriarchy: Applied Ethical Spiritwork with Katy Swallow
Jailbreaking Patriarchy: Applied Ethical Spiritwork with Katy Swallow
Well, my guides demanded it, so I'm offering this 6-week intensive on applied, ethical, intersectional, justice-driven magic. In this 6-week intensive we will explore specific, strategic, inherently collaborative, spiritwork techniques, both astral and rooted in the physical world, to dismantle energy structures in your environment, to support and effect structural change.
We will explore and use:
- perceptive (psychic) skills
- intuitive skills
- percussion
- movement
- journeying and visualization
- the body as a landscape for personal and collective healing
- the land as a collaborator in the work
- applying the reality of "as above so below" through physically tangible magical acts
- psychopompery
- compassionate space making for the dead and the living (sometimes even the ones we don't like)
- development of respectful relationships with the unseen world
- engagement with ancestral spirits of many types
The application of magic is the overall priority, this is not a theoretical course in armchair magic. My overall goal in most of my teaching is to get you using new skills as quickly as possible, as safely as possible.
I will use as much live demonstration as possible and invite collaboration when possible.
My work is about pattern recognition and movement of energy and patterns. We have a lot more power to move energy and change patterns than most of us realize. I will show you ways to make these concepts more concrete, more actionable, and more effective, by applying them to our individual times and places. We are all snared in the same overlapping webs. This is not about quick and easy fixes. This is not a class about how to get back at your ex or punish your parents (though I'm not here to judge anyone's frustration with these issues!) This is about the guts of structural deconstruction.
The dates are 5/13, 5/20, 5/24, 6/3, 6/10, 6/18. Each session will be 2 hours long, via Zoom (I'll send the link directly to participants). 6-8pm EST (though we can explore other mutually beneficial times depending on the size and availability of the group). I will record them so that if you need to miss a session you can watch it later, but I highly recommend coming to the live sessions if you're able, because this is a process that will benefit from the energetic presence of the group.
There are specific topics which will be covered, but some of this will have to develop as it goes, and I will demonstrate some topics as we go (collaboratively, if it fits the task).
You do not need to be "a psychic" and you do not need to be "experienced," but you do need to take foundational practices like grounding, and protection, very seriously (and I will happily offer mentorship on those topics). Those who are more experienced, will simply be able to apply certain lessons more quickly. This is not explicitly a "beginning" class, so, fair warning (though questions are always welcome!) It is ideal if you have some type of communication tool you can use (like divination cards, runes, bones, unless you're already very comfortable using your psychic perception skills and that works for you).

Side notes that aren't really side notes...
Trauma Awareness: This course deserves every possible trigger warning. The process of ancestral healing work often involves engaging with and holding space for difficult topics of all types. I will do my best to navigate these things as gently as possible (some topics just aren't gentle, and sometimes we don't know we aren't ready for them until they arise!) I am trained as a death doula and have a lot of experience with difficult subjects, like trauma. I'll do my best to cultivate a trauma aware space.
Patriarchy and White Supremacy: My teaching space is inherently dedicated to anti-patriarchal and anti-white supremacy work. I am not an "expert" in either of these topics but approach these topics as an ongoing learning process, always. I recognize that some participants may have greater expertise than I do, on these topics, and any other, and welcome that expertise, with gratitude.
LGBTQIA+ Awareness: Everyone's wholeness is a priority, here. The safeguarding of human wholeness is central to my work because it is at the center of our collective healing work. This means that you are welcome here in your wholeness, and it gives me joy to make space for your wholeness. If there are things you can teach me about better making space for your wholeness, I have space for that.
